The Spanish Royal team is eager to reunite with former coach Zinedine Zidane to replace Carlo Ancelotti, who is moving on to lead the Brazilian national team.
According to the Spanish media outlet El Chiringuito TV, Zidane is the top candidate to replace Coach Ancelotti if the Italian tactician leaves the club at the end of the season. Ancelotti’s contract is set to expire in June 2024, and he is strongly linked to the position of the Brazilian national team’s head coach.
Therefore, Real Madrid’s President, Florentino Perez, is in search of a potential candidate, and Zidane is the most prominent name for his third term at Santiago Bernabeu.
Zidane has been without a club since leaving Real Madrid in June 2021. The French legend achieved significant success in his two terms with the La Liga giants, leading the team to 174 victories in 263 matches and securing three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles.
The French coach recently turned down an offer from Marseille, a club in Ligue 1. He also showed no interest in replacing Coach Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain during the summer.
Many believe that Zidane has long aspired to become the head coach of the French national team. However, Didier Deschamps signed a new three-year contract with Les Bleus in July 2022, ending the possibility of Zidane replacing him in the near future.
Returning to Bernabeu for his third stint as Real Madrid’s coach is an exciting prospect for Zidane. A new team has been built since his departure, with emerging talents like Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga.
Meanwhile, the current coach, Ancelotti, has refrained from commenting on reports that he will take over as the coach of the Brazilian national team. This could be due to his contract with Real Madrid remaining in effect until mid-next year. As a result, Ancelotti avoids discussing this possibility, as he stated to Madrid Xtra: “Will I be coaching Brazil next year? This is a forbidden topic; let’s talk about something else.”
In reality, the Italian tactician has been selected as the top choice for the Selecao, replacing Coach Tite, after he resigned following the FIFA 2022 World Cup. Ancelotti has never coached a national team before, although he began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Italian national team from 1992 to 1995.
The President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed that Ancelotti will take over the Selecao after his contract with Real Madrid expires. He mentioned that the current interim coach, Fernando Diniz, and the Italian coach share similar coaching philosophies.
“He (Diniz) always applies the same methods as Coach Ancelotti, and these two coaches have similar ideas. I am confident that the one who will lead our team in the upcoming Copa America is Mr. Ancelotti,” said the President of CBF.
Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid in July 2021 and led Los Blancos to a double victory in the Champions League and La Liga in the 2021-2022 season. Subsequently, he won the Copa del Rey last season.
The White Herons have started the current season strongly under his leadership. They have won 8 out of 9 matches in La Liga, topping the league table. Ancelotti’s team has also remained unbeaten in the group stage of the top European club competition, leading Group C.
