Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones assessed the club’s early-season performance.
Manchester United had a slow start to the season. Under Erik ten Hag, the team was sitting in 10th place in the Premier League after 8 rounds of matches. Many key players have been underperforming since the start of the season, and Casemiro is among them.
The Brazilian midfielder has lost his sharpness, speed, and pressing abilities in the midfield. Casemiro received a red card and was sent off during the match against Galatasaray in the Champions League. Upon returning to the Premier League, the former Real Madrid star made mistakes that led to Brentford’s opening goal.
Dean Jones commented to GiveMeSport, saying, “Manchester United is currently facing significant issues with Casemiro. At the beginning of the season, we thought everything would work out. Manchester United welcomed new signing Sofyan Amrabat.”
“Manchester United has the makeshift central defensive partnership of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans. Even in front of this duo, Manchester United doesn’t possess a reliable defensive shield.”
The midfield has become a major concern for Manchester United. Alongside Casemiro, new signing Mason Mount hasn’t delivered a convincing performance yet. The former Chelsea player seems out of sync with the team’s overall style of play.
Casemiro is likely to be absent when Manchester United returns to Premier League action. Brazil’s national team head coach, Fernando Diniz, confirmed that Casemiro suffered a foot injury during the match against Venezuela.
